VIDEO: Emergency landing after man smokes cannabis on American Airlines flight
A cannabis smoking passenger caused an American Airlines plane to make an emergency landing.
An American Airlines flight made an unscheduled landing Friday after a passenger began smoking cannabis in the cabin.
Flight AA2408 from Phoenix to Minneapolis was diverted to Denver after the unruly man lit a joint, shouted at fellow passengers, and began punching seats.
According to reports, the unidentified man locked himself in the bathroom at one point and screamed: “You’re all screwed,” before admitting he had taken cocaine.
Once on the ground in Denver, the pilot asked the first 13 rows of passengers to exit the plane so they could remove the suspect. who reportedly punched one of the other passengers as they attempted to disembark.
Police arrested the man but determined that it was a medical emergency “due to the passenger being in a crisis” and transported him to the hospital.
No charges were filed.
An spokesman for American Airlines said: “Flight 2408 from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) diverted to Denver International Airport (DEN) due to a disruptive passenger. Law enforcement met the flight, and the aircraft re-departed.
“Thank you to our crew members for taking care of our customers during this situation.”
